La COP es el organismo que se encarga de revisar los progresos en la aplicación del Convenio sobre la Diversidad Biológica, a la vez que adopta programas de trabajo para alcanzar los objetivos propuestos y orienta a las partes involucradas en temas como las políticas del convenio.
La cop se reune cada 2 años (o cada que sea necesario). La próxima reunión tendrá lugar en Cabos, México.
